The Lord Supports Us

Psalm 18:34

“He trains my hands for war,

so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.”

The Lord had given David all the skills and knowledge to win the war, defeating his enemies who were like swirling waters that were about to drown him (v. 16b, “he drew me out of many waters”). He is doing the same for us today. He equips us, giving us all wisdom and skills needed to fight this war against our sin, against the devil and the world that’s under Satan’s influence. And his faithfulness and mercy will see us through to win this battle. He is the source of our strength, so that we are not fighting this fight on our own strength or wisdom (which won’t get us very far). We can rest in Christ, knowing that He is with us, He goes before us and with us, and He is faithful to his promise that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
